Upward Choir

The purpose of the Upward Youth Choir is to promote the discovery of Jesus through music and serve our community by using our voices to uplift and encourage others.  This year our theme will be "Honoring All Who Served," Veteran's Day 2021.  We will honor God, our country and those who have served to give us the freedoms we enjoy today.  Plans are in the works for a concert on a Saturday afternoon in early November to coincide with Veteran's Day, November 11.  A dress rehearsal on Friday night before the concert will be required.  Each choir may also sing at a Retirement / Senior Living site the week prior to the concert.  Dates and times will be communicated with participants as soon as they are available.

Rehearsals are Mondays between 4:30-8:30 pm from August 23 through early November.  Students will be assigned a choir following auditions.  The purpose of the audition is for the director to get to know the students and their voices.  Specific grade levels included in each choir may be adjusted based on the number of students who register.  Auditions will be on Mondays, August 2nd and 9th at Bethel Church.  Everyone will be included in a choir.

The cost to participate is $99 which includes sheet music, a folder and either a shirt (boys) or a simple dress or shirt (girls) for the concert.  More details on concert attire will be coming soon.

Both auditions and rehearsals will be at Bethel Church in the Choir Room, which is on the lower level under the auditorium stage.  When you arrive at Bethel, park on the south side of the building and enter the main doors.  Just after the bathrooms which are on the right side of the foyer, turn right and go down the stairs.  At the bottom of the stairs, turn left down the hallway.  The choir room is on the left side near the end of the hall.

To join the choir, please purchase a ticket for $99 and you will be directed to the registration page.  Once you have paid and completed the registration, you will be directed to the sign-ups for auditions.  

Registration will close on August 9, the last day of auditions.

For the audition, students should come prepared to sing the following:

Grades K-2  My Country 'Tis of Thee (verse 1)

Grades 3-5  My Country 'Tis of Thee (verse 1)  or America the Beautiful (verse 1 and chorus)

Grades 6-8  America the Beautiful (verse 1 and chorus)

The songs do not need to be memorized and both words (text only) and music will be provided.

Students must sign-up individually, but those in the same time block may audition together.

Please arrive early so students are signed in and ready at their audition time.

Mindy Heinsch is the wife of Upward Sports Director, Glenn Heinsch.  She has degrees in Vocal Music Education and Educational Leadership.  Mindy has taught choral and classroom music to grades K-8 in public and private schools.  In addition, she has taught private voice lessons for over 20 years and is a member of the Voice Care Network.  Mindy has been active in music ministry in numerous churches over the years both as a part of worship teams and children’s ministry.
